Hi Matt! Great to see you! I love this and I think that anything that pushes us outside of our comfort zone is bound to take us somewhere. We have started All Creation Waits: The Advent Mystery of New Beginnings By Gayle Boss. It is a daily nature inspired reader for advent, so far we are enjoying it. Thank you for the update!
Dear Matthew, Thanks so much for your video -- of, as you said, "just me." As I continue to read certain Substack authors like you on a regular basis, I really appreciate getting to know the author as a person as well as a writer. To me, the direct connection that SS facilitates is a very important feature. I enjoyed hearing your voice, seeing your face, learning a little more about the context for your writing, and hearing a bit about the plan for the year ahead. Two thumbs up, for sure! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season ahead, and I'm glad you'll be taking some down time and time to enjoy your kids. They grow up so fast! I'll be traveling to Austin, where my kids and grandkids will all be gathered. It's always a treat.
I feel like we're on the same wavelength, Matthew! I was thinking of doing videos, too, for the same reasons as you stated. Even though I'm terrified of being on video lol. But yes, AI has made it so important to show our human selves..
Matthew, I applaud you heartily for this! I understand entirely your discomfort. One day I will find the courage to speak in front of a camera without this ridiculous fear I harbour... I'm practicing! Here alone, in quiet moments which are few and also in trying to join in with others that offer community Zoom meetings. I think there is something very special about hearing the voice and actually seeing the writer behind the words, getting to know them a little better in a world that seems to become more and more isolated. It feels important, it feels like community. And, it's something we rarely have the opportunity of experiencing with a traditional book!
Thank you, I look forward to more posts like this one.
I love this idea, Matt. I think people are craving more connection, especially as we integrate AI into our daily lives. The occasional video is great!

Ditto.
Matthew, you are brave.
Thank you for talking about books and writing, and especially getting in front of the camera. I will get up the courage someday soon.📕🫶🏼
