Thank you Barrie. I spent a lot of time thinking through this and seeking out books that felt right. Hopefully you will be able to join in some of the book discussion when the time comes. Enjoy this last bit of your journey through Europe. Home will be calling to you soon.

It feels funny to be into the last couple of weeks, Matt. And thoughts have turned to home.

Thanks brother. I appreciate the continued encouragement. Belated Happy Veterans Day as well. I was traveling in Missouri and mostly offline so didn't get the chance to send my greetings.

Matthew, I'm so inspired by the way you've put this together. The thought behind the book selection and weaving in the seasons. I've been working on a personal self-education "program" of sorts and find it challenging to come up with a curriculum. This inspires me so much.

Matthew Long's avatar

Thank you Lou. I try to put together a personal curriculum each year. Let me know if I can be of any help.

What a thoughtful and meaningful reading programme! The seasonal cycle as a gentle guide and inspiration is genius. As someone at the very eager start of a Baldwin journey, I’m absolutely following you through a year of reading his work! 👏🏻

Thanks Claire! I am hopeful it will be an impactful journey.

I read Giovanni's Room over the summer, and I can't wait to go back to it for discussion. The program is amazing.

Matthew Long's avatar

Thanks Camila. I am also excited about the discussion. I have never read Baldwin so this will be a great experience for me.

Brace yourself; it's very powerful.

Delicious nutrition for the soul, thank you for the work you have put into this.

The third mention of Octavia Butler this week, an online reading group of Parable of the Sower started yesterday. I am reading her (from Wales) alongside a friend at uni in Chicago.

Dear Matthew, This looks very exciting!! I think you've chosen some fascinating selections that should make for good discussion. I was not able to join for Homer last year, so wonder how you actually proceed with discussions. Are there zoom meetings, or is it mainly asynch comments in a threaded discussion, or ??? Do I need to sign up, or just watch for the relevant posts on SS? I suspect these details are forthcoming - just wanted to check in. I do hope to participate! Thank you for offering this opportunity.

A wonderfully diverse list. I doubt I’ll be able to do them all but looking forward to jumping in when I can.
