Looking forward to it and hopefully a vigorous discussion. Wrapping up my year with Tolstoy, and now it seems embarking on a year of Homer. I’ve read the Odyssey before on my own but found the number of side characters daunting.
Mathew, I was not planning on reading Homer with you but adore your posts about it. They have inspired me to go back to my old days of no television and reading tons of books.
So even though I'm not joining the journey I am reaping the benefits of your intent!
THANK YOU! You are inspiring through your actions!!
I am going to try. I read both volumes some years ago (first time since late teens) and London Review of Books had a great series about Greek literature. I sorely feel the need to be distracted from the coming New World. I look at my shelves and the dusty copies of Boswell’s diaries, Pepys diaries, Dante, (which I brought from England in a steamer trunk) and try to remember my youthful intensity….my parents took me to the local library when I was 6 (1943) and for so many years I always had a book in my hand, and so resented being dragged away for chores. Now no one drags me away! But youthful energy, well, it’s a little different now. I am encouraged by your passion, Matthew.

I hope there is lots of good discussion as well. Glad to have you along for the journey.

Thanks for the kind words Amelia!
Hi Matthew, I have the Ennis Rees translation...will this suffice?
Any translation that you are comfortable with works great!
I look forward to following along!!
